There are many ways to enjoy scuba diving while visiting Manzanillo, without having to commit your total vacation time to the sport. With PADI-designed courses taught by qualified instructors, you can have fun and learn at the same time. You can assimilate knowledge more quickly, while moving from one step immediately to the next, with smaller classes, individual attention, and a patient, experienced instructor.

Here are a few of the ways you can have fun and learn new skills:

PADI BUBBLEMAKER:  (Duration half day. Minimum age 8 yrs.)

If your kids are water babies why not give them a real treat? Let them experience the thrill of breathing underwater. Let them take the plunge to experience another world--the underwater world.

We begin with a lesson in the swimming pool (we'll even come to your private residence) with scuba gear under the direct supervision of a PADI Instructor. At the end of the session, they'll get a chance to hunt for buried treasure. Start them out on the right fin! Make diving a family experience, and show them a special vacation adventure they’ll never forget.

PADI DISCOVER SCUBA: (Duration: half-day. Minimum age: 10)

If you've always wanted to try scuba diving, or you're not sure whether to commit to a full diving course, this half-day class and dive will teach you the basics of scuba diving. First, a lesson at poolside to explain how everything works and an important short class on safety procedures.

Next, a lesson in the pool. You will put into practice clearing water from your mask and how to control your buoyancy. As soon as you feel confident, we are off to the sea for an open water dive.  The amount of fish in Manzanillo's warm waters is amazing! You'll be so excited at the variety of animal life you'll forget you're breathing underwater.

PADI SCUBA DIVER: ( Duration: 2 days)

Thinking of getting certified for an upcoming vacation, but don’t have the time to put into a regular diver course? Now there’s a quick and easy program designed especially for you! This is your chance to slap on some fins, strap on a mask and experience an intense adventure in a short amount of time. The PADI Scuba Diver program is a pre-entry level certification that is perfect for vacationers or people who only plan to dive a couple times a year.

As a subprogram of the PADI Open Water Diver Program, the PADI Scuba Diver rating allows you to get certified quickly and easily by minimizing time constraints. With the PADI Scuba Diver certification you can dive under the direct supervision of a PADI Divemaster, Assistant Instructor, Instructor or higher professional on your next vacation or dive trip. This program is a wonderful opportunity to explore the underwater world with the comfort and safety of having an experienced guide with you at all times. The knowledge and skills you learn in this program are just the beginning of an exciting array of courses and programs that await. With a PADI Scuba Diver certification card, you will be able to obtain air fills, scuba equipment and other services for diving under supervision. After completing the program, you’ll want to continue your dive education and the PADI Open Water Diver Certification to explore more dive opportunities.

This course consists of the first three classroom and pool lessons of the Open Water course, followed by 2 Open Water dives. At a later date, all you have to do to upgrade is the remaining pool and classroom lessons and two more Open Water dives.

On completion you will receive a certification card, but you will be restricted to diving with a Divemaster, Assistant Instructor or Instructor.

Note: A junior scuba diver may only dive when accompanied by a PADI Divemaster, Assistant Instructor or Instructor.

PADI OPEN WATER DIVER: (Duration 3-4 days. Minimum age 15 years)

An entry-level diver course. After completion of this course, you will be able to dive anywhere in the world by showing either your PADI certification card.

  • 4-5 Classroom lessons,
    followed by a final exam.
  • 4-5 Confined water/pool lessons
  • 4 Open water (ocean) dives.
  • Quality Sherwood BCDs and regulators furnished,
along with any and all other equipment needed to
complete the course. Even studying is fun in the open air
    under a shady palapa.

PADI JUNIOR OPEN WATER DIVER:  (Minimum age. 10 yrs.)
(Same course as above, but with depth limit to 40 ft/12 mts.)

  • When student reaches 15 yrs of age, certification upgraded to Open Water Diver at no extra charge, other than paying for a new card.
  • On completion, may only dive with another certified diver.

REFERRALS: (Duration 2 days with referral form)

If you don't want to run into a time-crunch on your vacation, you may begin your scuba training where you live, and complete it in Manzanillo. Following classroom and pool training in your country, your instructor can give you a referral form so that you can complete your certification here. We honor referral forms from all certifying agencies, such as NAUI, SSI, NASDS, CMAS, YMCA, ACUC, and others.

PADI ADVANCED OPEN WATER DIVER:  (Minimum age 15 yrs. Duration 2 days)

This time, no heavy duty classroom work--just a few quizzes in the back of your dive manual and 5 Open Water dives. These must include:

  • Deep Dive: Under the supervision of a qualified PADI
Instructor, experience a dive up to 100ft/30 mts.
Marvel at the different fish you’ll see at this depth.
Learn better buoyancy control. Feel the possible
effects of Nitrogen Narcosis, (but don't worry, your
instructor is there to take care of you).
  • Navigation Dive: Never get lost under water again.
Learn how to locate any object, such as a sunken ship,
with the aid of a compass heading.

When you know how to use your compass, you'll gain confidence underwater.
This is one of the most useful lessons you’ll ever have. Choose another three dives
to make up your course. To name a few, these may include a:

  • Boat dive
  • Night dive
  • Fish I.D.
  • Underwater Naturalist
  • Wreck dive
  • Underwater photography (we have camera)
  • Search and recovery dive
  • Peak performance buoyancy dive
  • Multi-level dive

PADI JUNIOR ADVANCED OPEN WATER: (Minimum age 12 yrs. up to 15 yrs.)
(same course as above but with depth restriction of 70 ft/21 mts.)

Whether your just received your junior open water or have logged quite a few dives, PADI's Adventures in Diving program gives you the confidence, skills and experience to take your diving to new levels of excitement!

PADI EMERGENCY FIRST RESPONSE: (Duration: One day, 8 hours.)

Chances are, you won't ever need to use the range of skills presented in this course. However, should the need arise to provide emergency medical attention, you'll have the knowledge to respond quickly with confidence. The Medic First Aid program can show you how to respond if someone needs help. You'll learn about emergency first aid and CPR (Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation).

Learn how to check for breathing and pulse and how to resuscitate an unconscious person, aid a choking victim, how to deal with allergic reactions, asthma, heart attacks, heat stroke, and other emergency response procedures.

Note: Emergency First Response is a prerequisite for the Rescue Diver course.

PADI RESCUE DIVER: (Duration 2-3 days. Minimum age 12 yrs.)
(Add one day more for Emergency First Response.)

Perhaps the most important course of all. Some of the things you’ll learn will be how to assist and rescue divers from the surface and under the water.

How to find a missing diver.

How to bring an unconscious diver to the surface and give mouth-to-mouth resuscitation while towing the diver back to shore.

How to get an unconscious diver out of the water.

There are 12 exercises in all, and by the end, you will probably be exhausted, but you will be a better diver for it.

Even if you don’t want to become a dive professional this course is a must, for your own safety and your buddy's.

PADI DIVEMASTER:  (Duration, minimum 2 weeks. Minimum age 18 yrs.)
(must have 20 or more logged dives before commencing and 60 by the end of the course.)

First step to becoming a professional. Academically intensive course, designed to extend your diving theory knowledge and dive skills to an Instructor level with hands on experience with real students.

Involves assisting an instructor on courses, and teaching pool classes on your own. Learn to anticipate beforehand any problems the students may have. Make dive briefings, lead dives, and learn how to evaluate water conditions before a dive.

This course is the minimum requirement for enrollment in the Assistant Instructor and Instructor courses.

A certain amount of physical fitness is required. So, come prepared.

PADI MASTER SCUBA DIVER: (Minimum age 12 yrs.)

This is the highest non-professional rating offered by PADI.

If you are already a PADI Rescue diver or have an equivalent rating with another agency and don’t want to become a dive professional, then this course is the one for you.

Choose five complete Specialty courses. These could include: Wreck, Photography, Search and Recovery, Night, Boat and many more.

After completing this course, no one will doubt your experience and ability.

PADI SPECIALTY COURSES:

Deep Diver: (4 dives. Minimum age 12 yrs. Prerequisite, Advanced Open Water.)

In this course, you’ll dive to 130ft/40mts. With so many shipwrecks lying in these depths it makes sense to learn the dangers and safety practices of deep diving.

Learn more about nitrogen narcosis and air management. Practice using a reel and delayed surface marker buoy, two very important pieces of equipment when you’re diving deep.

Learn how to set up and use a spare air tank for emergency decompression purposes.

Wreck Diver: (4 dives. Minimum age 12 yrs.)

If you have lots of shipwrecks in your area, then this is the course for you. Shipwrecks can be very dangerous places without the proper training. Learn about the specific hazards of diving in an overhead environment and how to lay a line to find you’re way back.

Actually penetrate a wreck under the supervision of your PADI Instructor. The "San Luciano," in Santiago Bay, is a 300-foot-long cargo steamship that sunk in the hurricane of '59. It is 85 years old, and holds a bounty of fish and coral animals.

Navigation Diver: (3 Dives. Minimum age 12 yrs.)

A course for everyone. How many times have you been lost under the water and blamed your compass? Hands-on practice at compass and natural navigation. Certainly one of the most useful courses you’ll do.

Night Diver: (3 Dives. Minimum age 12 yrs.)

So, you thought that when the sun goes down the little fishes go to bed. Well, you’re wrong!

After dark is when the sea comes alive. Everything comes out to eat, or be eaten (for the unlucky ones). See Octopus, Lobster, Morays and much more. Experience the magnificent bioluminescents. (Like Tinkerbell, these tiny organisms glow in the dark.) For even more fun, explore a shipwreck after dark.

The scrolled filefish (left) is one of the species that sleeps, allowing you to get very close. Other fish who can't stay awake to greet divers include trigger fish, giant parrotfish, and various species of puffers.

Underwater Photographer: (2 dives. Minimum age 10 yrs.)

Digital has taken the underwater photography world by storm. Get in on the action with the PADI Digital Underwater Photographer Specialty course. You can quickly and easily capture the underwater world with your camera and on your computer.

During the PADI Digital Underwater Photographer Specialty course, you learn to use the PADI SEA (Shoot, Examine and Adjust) method, which takes full advantage of digital technology. The result is good underwater photos faster than you may imagine. You not only learn how to take good photos, but how to share them with your friends via email or printing, optimizing your work with your computer, storage and more.

AWARE Underwater Fish I.D.: (2 dives. Minimum age 12 yrs.)

Have you ever asked yourself, "What was that?”

The PADI Project AWARE Fish Identification Specialty course provides you with the fish identification basics so that next time, you know the answer.

During two dives you gain hands-on experience in looking for and identifying the fascinating fish you see underwater. You can learn more about Project AWARE by going to www.projectaware.org.
